On the craggy coast of the Cape Verde island of São Nicolau, Quirino lives with his hen and a radio that tells him about life outside his ghost village. He ponders human existence and spends every day in solitude. When everyday life becomes too arduous for the 76-year-old, he has to make a decision: can he leave his home behind and begin a new life? Eva Weinmann

 

Biography

Carlos Yuri Ceuninck is from Santo Antão, Cape Verde. He studied at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in Cuba, specializing in documentary film directing. Ceuninck is an alumni of the Hot Docs Blue Ice Group, the EFM DocSalon Toolbox programme (Berlinale) and the SDI Connecting Stories programme (Scottish Documentary Institute).
