ICH KENN' KEINEN - ALLEIN UNTER HETEROS
Deutschland 2003 – Director: Jochen Hick – Original language: German – Length: 100 min.
Gay life in rural Germany. Hartmut, Richard, Stefan and Uwe are an exotic species in the grand straight community of the country. Friends from the church choir or the local pubs react to their life-styles with constant verbal abuse. They are forced to go a long with gay jokes when necessary tell stories about hot girls. The alternative: never come out and play the weird uncle at family gatherings.
They lighten up their lives with little trips to Berlin, Hamburg, Zurich or Thailand. Here they are finally able to escape the narrowness of the country and fulfil some of their dreams and desires.
The gay men are not the only ones who talk in this movie. Expressed in local dialect, the often comical and surprising comments on homosexuality made by heterosexual protagonists demonstrate just how deep the gulf is between what is supposedly normal and what comprises a deviation from the norm. The film provides a bitterly comical portrait of a heterosexual perspective on gay men in Germany's country towns.
