OÙ EST L'AMOUR DANS LA PALMERAIE?
Belgium 2006 – Director: Jérôme Le Maire – Original language: Arabic, French – Subtitles: English, French – Length: 85 min.
A year and a half ago, Jérôme, his wife and his two children left Belgium to settle in a remote palm grove in southern Morocco. As he grew accustomed to his new life in a completely different culture, he began to ask himself: where is the love? In this traditional Muslim society, the sexes are divided, virginity is highly valued and marriages are arranged. So how is love supposed to blossom when everything, even walking hand in hand with your wife, is "chouma" (shameful)? Does love exist in the palm grove at all, or is it just hiding behind veils and strict rules? Another man looking for answers is Mansour, Jérôme's new friend. Mansour is 43 years old and wants to get married as soon as possible. But where can a man meet a woman in this small community without everyone knowing? And Mansour, free and independent Mansour, tell us, do you actually really want to get married? As one man searches for a wife, and the other for understanding, their quests intertwine. A touching and poetic story told with simplicity, humour and sincerity.
