As a child, she was placed in an orphanage. She ran away – again and again. Nobody could hold her down and her voice came and went like waves breaking in the sea. She sang of poverty, slavery and desire. Morna and Coladeiras are seen today as part of the world’s cultural heritage; back then, they were local music. Ana Sofia Fonseca 

Fonseca studied cultural journalism at the Catholic University of Portugal in Lisbon. The TV journalist, author, documentary filmmaker and producer is always on the lookout for the stories of the people behind events. So, in addition to human rights topics and historical books, she also enjoys writing about wine for balance.
