Maya Reichert

DOK.education project manager

Maya Reichert, cultural mediator and filmmaker herself, heads the year-round educational programme DOK.education at Germany's largest documentary film festival DOK.fest München. She studied at the University of Television and Film Munich, where she worked from 2009 to 2017 in the department of Dramaturgy and Creative Writing in the chair of Prof. Doris Dörrie. As a lecturer, she has teaching assignments at universities as LMU or HFF Munich, at various film initiatives as well as several education institutes for teachers. She is an active member of the "Round Table Film and School" of the Institute for School Quality and Educational Research, which is committed to strengthening media competence, film analysis and film practice in schools.

Since 2009 Maya Reichert is part of the International Documentary Filmfestival – the largest documentary filmfestival in Germany. In 2013 she took over the management of the children & youth programme DOK.education. Through the initiatives of DOK.education with numerous cultural providers, TV institutions and schools, Maya Reichert has built up a large qualitative network in which the artistically narrative documentary film is always at the centre. The heart of DOK.education, the documentary film school for school classes, sees itself as a kind of "school for the art of seeing". Together with an extensive year-round programme, DOK.educaton now reaches around 3000 pupils every year in and around Munich. Well over 10,000 pupils have already taken part in the programme.

But also in a modified form for adults, under the title "Learning to read films", the storytelling workshops, dramaturgy lectures and film talks are becoming increasingly popular. Maya Reichert's area of expertise is contemporary film education for all ages: Teachers, interested adults, senior citizens, teenagers and children. She speaks at conferences and events in the field of education as an expert on film education, teaching children's film, media competence and cultural education through the medium of film.
