nextus – learning by documentaries
Become part of the European film education platform nextus, which enables the transnational use of documentary feature-length films in school lessons.
The world in moving pictures – learning with documentary feature-length films
With the film education platform nextus the spanish documentary film festival DocsBarcelona in cooperation with DOK.fest München and the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival enables a special learning experience: In a carefully selected programme of international documentaries, young people experience diverse realities of life from fields such as art and society, science and technology, history and nature.
An european team of teachers, film experts and media educators has selected award-winning documentary films that stand out from well-known documentary formats because of their special narrative form: Films that bring personal stories behind the facts to life and leave hardly any student untouched. In addition to a range of long films, we provide you with thematic film clips and clip collections for use in class. You will also find accompanying material for thematic teaching units and follow-up work on the films on the platform.
With nextus, we promote not only film education but also European education in the classroom - across national borders.
We are looking for secondary schools throughout Germany that would like to use nextus in their lessons and develop it further together with us. Participation as a partner school in the educational project funded by MEDIA – Creative Europe is free of charge. Find out more about our online training course for teachers: ‘Introduction to working with nextus’. If you are interested, we look forward to hearing from you!

Based on the experience gained there, the cooperating partners launched the multilingual platform nextus for schools in Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Macedonia and Greece. The European education project is funded by MEDIA – Creative Europe.
