A media competence workshop for pupils
Meet your prejudice! – challenged Hilarija Locmele and Christina Schmideder from PRO SINN the students of the Franz-Marc-Gymnasium in Markt Schwaben (Bavaria).
In a workshop in November 2021, the participants welcomed three guests for an interview on the blue couch:
Patrice – a drag queen named Eve, Laura – a musician with a physical disability and Radoslav – a representative of the Sinti and Roma community, told the students about their experiences with discrimination and racism, about career aspirations and about a lot of courage in their everyday life.
The three-day workshop "Triff dein Vorurteil!" ("Meet your prejudice!'') enabled students to confront their own prejudices towards marginalised groups of people. What is it like to sit opposite a drag queen? What questions do I ask a wheelchair user without being hurtful?
In a practical, playful and yet well-founded way, students elaborated the topic of prejudice and learned interviewing techniques that they applied in conversation with their guests. The workshop aimed to encourage the young people to overcome their prejudices, to learn how to deal with social media in a reflective way and at the same time to treat each other and their interview partners respectfully and without reservation.
Within a social-media campaign the students shared their impressions of the shoot and their collected background knowledge on the topic of prejudice and exchanged ideas with the online community. The three video-clips of interviews are also available on our social-media channels on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
