LÁZARO AND THE SHARK. CUBA UNDER THE SURFACE
Cuba, United States 2022 – Director: William Sabourin O'Reilly – Original with English subtitles (Q&A with director William Sabourin O'Reilly) – Length: 76 min.
Once a year, the inhabitants of Santiago de Cuba pour into the streets for carnival. It is both the expression of joie de vivre and of subtle criticism – arrests are quite likely. Dance and rhythm unite Cuban identity. Without huge financial resources but instead great inventiveness, the people craft their costumes and floats themselves. A celebration of perseverance in Cuba!
