DER FALL CHODORKOWSKI
DE 2011 – Director: Cyril Tuschi – Original language: English, German, Russian – Subtitles: English – Length: 111 min.
Michail Chodorkowski is one of the most enigmatic figures of post-communist Russia. Thanks to the swathe of ‘wild’ privatisation that took place during the Yeltsin era he became one of the nation’s most influential oligarchs. He took over the oil company Yukos and transformed it into a business with Western standards, establishing ties with the industrialised nations. He gained a reputation for being pro-West and Putin became increasingly suspicious. In 2003 Chodorkowski was arrested under dubious circumstances. In controversial proceedings the Kremlin critic was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Observers suspect that Putin had him swept out of the way.
