Why would parents send their children off over the highest mountains in the world without knowing whether they would ever see each other again? Ten years ago a mountain climber’s report from the Himalayas led the director and author Maria Blumencron to Tibet for the very first time. Together with the refugee guide, Kelsang Jigme, she braved the dangerous ascent to the pass – they were both arrested. Now, once again, she and Jigme, together with six refugee children, undertake the journey and risk imprisonment and torture or freezing to death in the eternal ice. GOOD BYE TIBET is the story of a border pass at around 6,000 metres, situated between Tibet and Nepal. For thousands of Tibetans it is the gateway to freedom, however for many it is also the threshold to death._A fascinating film about separation and love, which at the same time tells the story of a nation threatened with demise like never before.
