MITTSOMMERNACHTSTANGO
Argentina, Finland, Germany 2012 – Director: Viviane Blumenschein – Original language: Finnish, German, Spanish – Subtitles: German – Length: 82 min.
According to Aki Kaurismäki, tango must have originally come from Finland. “That is insane!” proclaim three Argentinian tango musicians and immediately jump on a plane from Buenos Aires to Helsinki to look into this hypothesis. In little old bangers they travel through the country and visit Finnish dance halls and tango greats like Reijo Taipale, Markus Allan and M.A.Numminen. It is not just musical flights of fancy that arise from their meetings but also amusing and genial moments. The shy Finns and the outgoing Argentinians find their own way to communicate - through four-four time and self-mockery. An amusing musical road movie, which revels in absurdity. Samay Claro
