Redemption – to free oneself from sin and suffering. This is what three young ex-GIs are hoping for. Their previous life in the American suburbs did not lead them anywhere – except into the arms of army recruiters. Suddenly deployed to Iraq and into the midst of ferocious fighting and war crimes, they are shocked and disillusioned. They do not return to duty from their short home leave but flee to Canada. Living undercover, bored, haunted by their memories of noise, shooting, panic and guilt, they try to find a new and true life. Their courageous step into criminality was the first in a painful route to uncertainty and the threat of extradition. Sabrina Wulff, in her graduation film from MunichFilmSchool, has gained access to the home and the minds of these three deserters; their world of fear, boredom and hope. Her rendering of their American hometowns through slow car drives is a real eye opener ...
