THE IRON MINISTRY
China, United States 2014 – Director: J.P. Sniadecki – Original language: Chinese – Subtitles: English – Length: 83 min.
The film literally takes us on a sensual and timeless train journey across China and through Chinese society. The rhythm, the sounds and even the protagonists change – each has a different story to tell, different things to sell or simply a different destination to reach. Like a chamber play, we move and listen through the different trains and train compartments that move quickly through the country. At the same time, J.P. Sniadecki guides us very carefully, sensitively and deliberately towards individual passengers. We accompany fragments of everyday life, hear intimate, loud and quiet things, follow discussions and thus receive a potpourri of impressions from China. Adele Kohout
