2010 International Jury

This jury will be awarding the prizes in the DOK.international competition and in the DOK.horizons section.

  • President of the International Jury:
    Peter Liechti, Director, Zurich

Born in 1951 in St.Gallen, Liechti studied Art History at the University of Zurich and gained a Diploma in Teaching Arts at the Zurich College of Art and Design. Since 1986 he has worked on a freelance basis as a scriptwriter, director, producer and cameraman. He has led many workshops, seminars and masterclasses throughout the world and has participated in many juries. His latest film, THE SOUND OF INSECTS – RECORD OF A MUMMY won the European Film Academy Documentary Prize 2009 - PRIX ARTE. This film will be screened at DOK.fest in the DOK.special section. 

  • Monika Lobkowicz, BR Commissioning Editor, Munich

Born in 1958 in Munich, Lobkowicz studied Psychology and Theatre in Vienna and Munich. Since 1995 she has worked in the ARTE Editorial Department at the Bavarian broadcaster, BR. She is responsible, among other things, for the ARTE slots: Documentaries, Wednesday History Programme, Culture and Music Documentations, Late-night Programmes and Sunday Evening Themed Programmes. She has supervised many award-winning documentary films as well as feature and television films.

  • Matthias Pfeffer, Journalist, Munich

Born in 1961 in Marburg an der Lahn, Pfeffer studied German Language & Literature, Philosophy and Pedagogy at Hamburg University before becoming Editorial Director at Sat.1 and Studio Hamburg. Since 1995 he has been at FOCUS TV Productions, initially working as Chief Editor and Duty Editor, responsible for various magazine and reportage programmes for RTL, Sat.1 and VOX among others. In 2001 he was appointed Managing Director alongside Helmut Markwort and, in this capacity, he also takes responsibility for the special interest channel FOCUS GESUNDHEIT. 

  • Heidrun Podszus, Distributor, Aschaffenburg

Born in 1954 in Berlin, Podszus took state examinations in Art and German. Since 1988 she has worked as a Distributor, firstly for Edition Salzgeber, then she became Managing Director of Sputnik Film together with Stefan Arndt. In 1995 she was the sole owner and Managing Director of Ventura Film. She has been awarded distribution prizes by both the Interior Ministry and the State Department for Culture. In addition she has been the Director of the Potsdam FilmFest and sat on the jury of the Vienna Film Fund (WFF) and the BKM Commissioning Fund. Since 2005 she has been the Managing Director of the Zeise cinemas in Hamburg alongside Christian Friedel.

  • Jean-Marie Teno, Director & Academic, Cameroon

Teno was born in 1954 in Famleng, Cameroon, and is one of the most renowned African filmmakers. For 20 years he has been making films about the colonial and post-colonial history of Africa, which have brought worldwide attention to the plight of the continent. His films (THE COLONIAL MISUNDERSTANDING, CHIEF!) have been celebrated at numerous festivals throughout the world. He was a guest of the Flaherty Seminars, an artist residency at the Pacific Film Archive of the University of California, Berkeley. He has lectured at several Universities in France and USA and currently lives in USA.
